Holiday Party

The 2007 Holiday Party was a fun night! Den 5 opened with a nice skit about Santa. Then the den leaders handed out achievement awards to all the scouts. It was a nice time to reward them for the hard work they’ve done this year. Each scout was also given a pine wood derby kit, so they can build cars for the race in March.
Following the dinner of pizza and wings, the scouts worked on a holiday craft. Then it was time to reward the scouts for their efforts selling popcorn earlier in the year. They collectively raised over $13,000 in sales, of which the pack keeps about 30%. Great job!
Den 2 closed with a reading of “The Night Before Christmas.”

Climbing at Rock Ventures

The annual rock climbing event was as good as ever! The parents started out with belay training, while the scouts worked on crafts. Then it was the kids turn to try climbing the walls that reach as high as 40 feet, with many making it to the top. Then everyone enjoyed pizza to finish of the night.

Quarry Outing

Some scouts ventured out to the Dolomite quarry in Penfield to look for crystals and learn a bit of geology in the process. Lots of different kinds of crystals were found, including calcite and dolomite.

September Pack Meeting

Brooks Hill Auditorium.
This was primarily an informational night. The parents heard the calendar of events and signed up to organize those events. There were a few events that still need organizers, so if you are interested in helping out, see the activities list and volunteer. There was also information about the popcorn sales.
The scouts were kept busy playing games. Then we all met at the end for cider and donuts.

Camp Cutler Weekend

We had a great time!
Friday night the scouts played games outside, then we had a pizza dinner and went for a quick hike.
Saturday’s breakfast featured pancakes and sausage. After breakfast the scouts learned how to handle a bow and arrows. Then it was off to the archery range to practice their new found skills. Following archery, was a nature hike, where the scouts found a lot of orange salamanders! Lunch was a traditional cookout with hamburgs, sausage, and hot dogs. Everyone really filled up after that hike. After lunch everyone built their own water and compressed air powered bottle rocket. The largest was about 3 feet tall! They soared up to at least 100 feet. Next was fishing where quite a few fish were caught. Everyone came back for a large pasta dinner, followed by a campfire and smores!
Sunday’s breakfast was followed by a little playtime, while the adult leaders cleaned and packed up.
Everyone had a great time, and we look forward to going to Camp Cutler again!
